After serving for more than 25 years, Microsoft has finally decided to end support for aging web browser Internet Explorer. In this process, the company has already provided enough time to the Windows users to make a switch from Internet Explorer to Edge browser in last few years. Now, in the official statement, the Redmond based tech giant has officially confirm that Internet Explorer will be retiring next year.
The official retiring date will be 15th June, 2022. On this date, Microsoft will put the final nail in the coffin. To recall, Internet Explorer has largely remained unused in last several years. With the introduction of several advanced browsers, the usage of Internet Explorer reduce drastically.
RIP Internet Explorer:
Sean Lyndersay, the Program Manager, Microsoft Edge officially announces the end of support for Internet Explorer. According to official statement, the Future of Internet Explorer for Windows 10 is in Microsoft Edge. The official statement confirms about the support for Internet Explorer 11 desktop application. The support will end on June 15, 2022 for certain versions of Windows 10. Additionally, Microsoft also confirms that the Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) of Windows 10. It will feature Internet Explorer for the entire next year. However, the consumer versions will end support of the aging browser. Microsoft did not clarify whether future version of Windows will feature Internet Explorer or not. But, rumors claims that the support for Windows 10 could continue bundled with future Windows update. This could possibly continue either till June 2022 or soon after.
Microsoft Edge as replacement:
In future, Internet Explorer will be completely replaced by the all new Microsoft Edge browser. Couple of months ago, Microsoft created an IE mode for complete process of smooth switching between Explorer to Edge. This mode allows a smooth transition for businesses. The IE mode also helps users to adopt to the new Chromium based browser. Additionally, Microsoft also promises to provide support of IE Mode in Edge browser until 2029.
To recall, Earlier, The tech giant was planning to end the support for Internet Explorer. The company was also planning to make Microsoft Edge as the default browser. Now, Microsoft has ended support for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 10. Earlier, Last year, Microsoft ended support for Internet Explorer 11 for Microsoft Teams app. Now, the company is planning to cut it’s support from accessing Microsoft 365 service. However, this will might begin later this year.
